Welcome to Glen Isla Estate - a small boutique vineyard which was
established in 1998 and straddles the picturesque Piesse Brook in
the Bickley Valley of Western Australia. The elevation of around
400 metres above sea level provides a relatively cool climate with
a fluctuating daily temperature during the warm summer ripening
period, adding to the flavour of the wine. The vineyard has a unique
micro-climate with slopes facing west, east and north.
Glen Isla Estate is situated 30 minutes drive southeast of Perth
and is included in the Perth Hills Wine Region - which extends
from the Bickley Valley northwards to Chittering and southwards

The Perth Hills Wine Region is one of Australia's newest gazetted
wine producing regions and was officially gazetted in April 1999,
although the first vineyard was planted over a century ago. The
region has been recognised in recent years for its excellent reds
- with numerous plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot
and Pinot Noir.
This year at Glen Isla Estate we produced 24 tonnes of Shiraz,
9 tonnes Pinot Noir and a similar amount of Merlot. The fruit
was sold to established wineries but a small quantity of Shiraz
and Merlot is being produced for limited release under our own
label. The vine growth is closely monitored with extensive canopy
control and crop yields are controlled by hand thinning. The grapes
are all hand picked.
Last year Glen Isla Estate produced only Shiraz, which was bottled
in February 2002 after aging in American oak barrels for ten months,
and this has won bronze medals in the 2002 Perth Royal Show (Class
16 - Dry Red - Shiraz) and the 2002 Swan Valley Wine Show (Class
10 - Dry Red Wine).
The 2000 Shiraz (which was produced only in small quantities)
was entered in the Perth Hills Wine Show, where it won bronze
medals in 2001 and 2002.
